Letter From the Secretaries General
Dear Delegates and Advisors,
We are excited to invite you to the 2019 International Relations Symposium at Yale (IRSY), hosted by the Yale International Relations Association (YIRA).
IRSY is a free, one day symposium where high school students engage with emerging global issues alongside esteemed professors and field experts. This year’s symposium will take place on Saturday April 13th, 2019, at Yale University (New Haven, CT) from 9:30 AM to 5:15 PM. Our broad array of speakers and workshop leaders, ranging from journalists to past military officers, will explore prominent international relations issues through specialized lenses.
This year’s theme is Diplomacy in an Era of Uncertainty. Students will be able to choose between four critical sub-fields, spanning: Media and Communications, Sustainability and Development, Security and Conflict, and Cyber Technology and Espionage. Within each track, students will have the chance to engage with a lecture, case study seminar, and crisis simulation catered to their specific area of focus. While lectures provide students with a foundation to consider their track, case studies and crisis simulations give them a chance to deep-dive into global issues in a hands-on way, putting concepts into action.
In addition to world-renowned speakers (past examples include Edward Wittenstein and Scott Shapiro), IRSY 2019 will also offer a choice between an admissions panel featuring members of the Yale Undergraduate Admissions Team, a workshop with Yale’s nationally ranked competitive Model UN team (MUNTY), and a social entrepreneurship workshop in partnership with the Tsai Center for Innovative Thinking at Yale (Tsai CITY).
